What You Can Do to Guarantee a Competitive, Consumer-Serving Market in Local Telecommunications and Internet Service

You can help bring competitive local telecommunications and high speed Internet service to our communities. Here's what you can do, right now:

• Contact your City Council or other local cable regulator. Make sure they know how you feel about better service and lower prices, and that you want cable to become a real competitor for monopoly telephone services.
• Write a letter to your representatives in Congress and/or your state state Legislature, asking them to make sure that national and state policy promotes the development of a competitive market in local telephone and Internet service.
• You can also write to the FCC, reminding them that our national policy is to promote competitive telecommunications service, and not to regulate the Internet.

• Have your community group or association prepare and circulate a petition supporting the provision of cable service as competition for monopoly local telephone service.
